I use a variety of accessories in the water. I spend 30-40 minutes minimum swimming with the 5 lb. ankle weights and the webbed gloves and then 20-30 minutes with these on both my hands and feet. I bought two sets. I use them in a lap lane. In the shallow end, I am parallel to the water using them, swimming with them. When I am in the deep water, I am vertical, moving the rest of the way down the lap lane by pumping with both. These are just great used in conjunction with the ankle weights and the webbed gloves to make up a total workout. All a water workout lacks is resistance and every accessory I've mentioned adds resistance. I should add that I am a woman. I want toned, strong arms (I've got them) but I don't want arms like Madonna's. This equipment is very easy to carry back and forth. I should also mention that I vary the equipment I use so that I don't get bored in the water. It can get very monotonous doing the same thing again and again, over and over, in the water. I find I can swim a lot longer if I vary what I am doing. Oh, I also use a noodle in the lap lane with these on my feet. That works very well too. Ditto webbed gloves with these on your feet. Mixing and matching these for your swim time is a lot of fun.
