First off, the plug I received did not look like the picture. The bit that goes *inside* the pool is a good deal longer than the one in this picture. What this means is, you cannot put this adapter in without it forcing open the seal on the inside of the pool and having water shoot out. To get around this, you can connect this adapter to your garden hose first, but it's considerably harder to attach once it's connected to the hose (since you have a huge pool full of water that's trying to keep the drain pointed at the ground while you screw a whole hose onto it) and you'll still have a bit of spray.
Also keep in mind that in order for this to work, the place you're draining the pool too has to be lower elevation than the water in the pool, otherwise gravity says the water doesn't have to go anyhere. So if the pool is in your backyard (like mine was) and the backyard is lower than the street where the drains are, you can't drain it to the street. You can drain it to the backyard, but if you wanted to do that you wouldn't need a hose, you could just pull the plug and let the thing drain. So even after I spent the $15.00, I ended up going another way.
If you own a pool, you probably also own your home or at least rent a house vs an apartment, so here's my advice: Go to Lowes and spend $50.00 on a submersible pump. Or buy a Submersible pump on Amazon.com, Amazon is cool too. But this adapter is tiny piece of plastic that you're CERTAINLY going to lose after the first time you use it, and on top of that you have to pay $10-15 plus shipping for something that it cost the Chinese eight cents to make. Even if you don't lose it, you'll never use it for anything else ever again other than the one situation of draining your pool..
So even though a submersible pump costs quite a bit more, it has many other uses. Basement floods, standing outside water, etc. And you won't lose it, because it's decent sized (a bit bigger than an American Football for a smallish one) and heavy.
I have nothing against this product itself or the poeple who sold it to me. My experience as a purchaser was excellent... but it's considerably overpriced for what it is (I spent $15+ shipping on this adapter, the POOL ITSELF cost less than $60.00), and it's not any sort of multitasker. Buy a submersible pump that will last you years and work for other things instead.
